Southern Co Earnings Reports

Southern Company delivered solid earnings in Q3 2025, supported by increased utility revenues and disciplined execution, despite headwinds from milder weather and rising costs.

Southern Company delivered a strong Q1 2025, with a solid boost in revenue and net income driven by higher utility revenues and continued customer growth across its service regions.

Southern Company reported Q4 2024 earnings of $534 million, or $0.49 per share, compared to $855 million, or $0.78 per share, in Q4 2023. Adjusted EPS was $0.50, down from $0.64 in the prior year. Operating revenue increased by 4.9% to $6.3 billion. Despite higher revenue, increased operating expenses and interest costs negatively impacted profitability.

Southern Company reported third-quarter earnings of $1.5 billion, or $1.40 per share, in 2024, compared to $1.4 billion, or $1.30 per share, in the third quarter of 2023. Excluding certain items, Southern Company earned $1.6 billion, or $1.43 per share, during the third quarter of 2024, compared to $1.5 billion, or $1.42 per share, during the third quarter of 2023. Operating revenues increased by 4.2% to $7.3 billion.

Southern Company reported second-quarter earnings of $1.2 billion, or $1.10 per share, compared to $838 million, or $0.77 per share, in the second quarter of 2023. Operating revenues increased by 12.4% to $6.5 billion.

Southern Company reported first-quarter earnings of $1.1 billion, or $1.03 per share, in 2024, compared to $862 million, or 79 cents per share, in the first quarter of 2023. The performance was driven by higher utility revenues, partially offset by increased interest expense and depreciation and amortization.
